IOC Trophy for Pioneers

 

There are honorable figures who served the sport and the Olympic movement through their careers, those who had always an outstanding presence in many sports activities and competitions, which are based on high principles.

Those individuals have a recognized legacy in many aspects and showed honesty & loyalty for the Olympic movement.

As a Recognition and appreciation for their services and their prominent roles in serving sport & the Olympic movement, Yemen NOC decided to honor their sports roles with the highest Olympic trophy. Since 1985, IOC offers this trophy annually, under various titles, for individuals who are chosen by NOCs General Assembly & Board of Directors, according to their sports resume.

Since 1999, Yemen NOC started awarding the IOC Trophy for Yemeni candidates, who were active in the Olympic & sport field, the process of nominating them based according to their sports resume, which are submitted to the Board of Directors that undertake the process of evaluating them according to their achievements, & roles in developing & serving sport & the Olympic movement in Yemen. After selecting the candidate, they submit his sports resume to the IOC for granting him the Trophy.

The Yemeni sports personalities who were awarded the IOC Trophies are as follows:

 

IOC Trophy 1999 – Sport & Education:

The winner was Mr. Mohammed AbdulWali Al-Shameeri

Resume:

  • He has a Bachelor degree in the Sport & Physical Education from Egypt in 1962.
  • The Founder of Youth Care Department in 1963 in the Ministry of Education.
  • Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Youth & Sports in 1970.
  • Secretary General of Youth & Sport’s Board in the Ministry of Social Affairs in 1978.
  • Vice-President of Yemen NOC in 1980, he is still a member of YOC so far.
  • Member of the Technical Board of the Arab Council of Youth & Sports Ministers – Member of the Technical Committee of the Arab Sports Union.
  • He headed many delegations and contributed to forming the sports statutes and rules.
  • Member of Arab Technical Committee that is the assistant to the Arab Council of Youth & Sports Ministers, during the period 2002 – 2010.
  • Currently, he is the advisor of the Minister of Youth & Sports in Yemen.

 

IOC Trophy 2000  – Sport & Universality:

The winner was Mr. Mohammed Abdullah Farea

Resume:

  • He got a Diploma in Journalism & Media from Germany in 1977.
  • Joined the sports media in 1954 and headed the Sports Section in Kefah Newspaper.
  • Head of Sports section in 14 October newspaper, during the period 1968 – 1990.
  • The responsible for preparing & presenting the Sports Magazine in Aden TV Channel since 1973 until his death.
  • Contributed to forming the first League of Arab Sports Journalism in 1972.
  • The Youth & Sport Department in the League of Arab States nominated him to be a lecturer in the first course for journalists. He was one of the lecturers in the Middles East & Asia.

 

IOC Trophy 2002 – Sport & Health:

The winner was Mr. Hasan Ali Al-Khawlani

Resume:

  • He graduated from the Academy of Sport & Physical Education in Algeria in 1973 and got a diploma in Athletics.
  • General Manager of the sports activities in the Supreme Council of Youth & Sports in 1980.
  • Head of the sport sector in 1985 and the Secretary General of Yemen NOC, during the period 1985 – 1990.
  • Undersecretary of the Ministry of Youth & Sports for the Administrative & Financial Affairs, during the period 1990 – 1994.
  • The Consultant in the Ministry of Youth & Sports as well as the President of Sports for All Federation.
  • He took the charge of many tasks in the sports administration and headed many delegations. Besides, he received many certificates in the sports organization & management.

 

IOC Trophy 2003 – The Sports Excellence:

The winner was Mr. Azzam Mohammed Khalifa

Resume:

  • He has a Doctorate degree in the Sport & Physical Education from the Supreme Institution in Germany.
  • Lecturer and coach in Football sport.
  • General Manager of Youth & Sports in Aden city.
  • He was the leading player in the National football team.
  • Coach in the University of Aden.
  • Coach for Telal National club.
  • Asian Lecturer.
  • Member of Yemen NOC.
  • Participated, within official delegations, in International, Continental & Arab sports events & Games.

 

IOC Trophy 2004 – Sport & Media:

The winner was Mr. Motaher Saleh Al-Ashmouri

Resume:

  • He has a Bachelor degree in Political Sciences.
  • Started working as a journalist in the sport in 1978.
  • Head of the Sports section in Al-Thawrah newspaper during the period 1982 – 1997.
  • The Editor in Chief of the Sport newspaper during the period 1990 – 2001.
  • One of the founders of Sports Media Association in 1982.
  • President of Sports Media Association during the period 1996 – 2002.
  • Secretary General of the Journalists Syndicate during the period 1999 – 2000.
  • Political analyst & critic.
  • Worked as a correspondent for many Arabic newspapers & magazines.

 

 

IOC Trophy 2005 – Sport & Fair Play:

The winner was Mr. Hamoud Saleh Al-Sheraie

Resume:

  • He has a bachelor degree in Sport & Physical Education in 1973 from Algeria.
  • General Manager of Youth & Sports in 1976.
  • President of Yemen Basketball Federation in 1979.
  • Manager of Youth & Sport Office in Dhamar governorate in 1981.
  • General Manager of Al-Thawrah Sports Complex in 1984.
  • Member of Yemen NOC in 1990.
  • Vice- President of the Sport for All Federation.
  • He headed many delegations and was a member within the delegation that applied for the recognition of YOC in the north part of Yemen in IOC meeting – Moscow 1980.

 

IOC Trophy 2006 – Sport & Society:

The winner was Mr. AbdulRahman AL-AKWA

Resume:

  • He has a bachelor degree of Commerce & Economics from Sana’a University.
  • He was the Secretary of the President of Yemen.
  • Under Secretary of the media sector in the Ministry of Information & Culture 1987.
  • Under Secretary of the Ministry of Youth & Sports in 1988.
  • Deputy Minister of Information & Culture 1990.
  • Member of Yemen Parliament in 1993.
  • Minister of Information & Culture in 1995.
  • Ministry of Youth & Sports in 2001.
  • President of Yemen NOC in 2001.
  • Elected as President of Yemen NOC for the period 2006 – 2010, then he was re-elected for the period 2011 – 2015.
  • Mayor of the Capital city of Yemen in 2008.

 

IOC Trophy 2007 – Sport & Promotion of Olympism:

The winner was Mr. AbdulHameed AL-SAEEDI

Resume:

  • He has a two-year diploma in the sport field from Algeria.
  • Manager of the International Relations Department in the Supreme Sport Council in Aden 1979.
  • Head of the Sports Activity Department in Aden University.
  • Was a teacher in the Sport & Physical Education in 1975.
  • President of Yemen Handball Federation.
  • Member of the Southern Yemen NOC Board of Directors during the period 1986 – 1990.
  • Member of the Unified Yemen NOC Board of Directors since 1990 till today.
  • Assistant-Under Secretary of Youth & Sports in 1990.
  • Member of the OCA Sports Committee.
  • Headed many sports delegations and was honored by many sports institutions.

 

IOC Trophy 2009 – The Fight against Doping in Sport:

The winner was Mr. Ali AbdulKareem AL-SABAHI

Resume:

  • President of the Sport Sector in 1982.
  • General Manager of the Armed Forces Officers Club in 1973.
  • Responsible of the Military Sport in 1970.
  • Member of Yemen NOC General Assembly since 2002.
  • President of the Technical Committee of Yemen Cup Competitions in 1982.
  • Former Secretary General of Yemen NOC.
  • Headed sports delegations in many sports events, one of them was Los Angeles Games in 1984.
  • Attended a course in the Olympic Academy in Greece in 1982.

 

IOC Trophy 2010 – Sport is an Inspiration to Youth:

The winner was Mr. Mohammed AL-AHJERI

Resume:

  • He has a bachelor degree in the sport & physical education from Beijing University in 1981.
  • Attended many courses in the sports Organization & Administration in Morocco, Qatar and Yemen.
  • General Manager of Yemen Sports Federations & Clubs Department in the Ministry of Youth & Sports.
  • Acting Under Secretary of the Ministry of Youth & Sports during the period 1995 – 1997.
  • Assistant Under Secretary of the Sport Sector during the period 1997 – 1998.
  • Secretary General of Yemen NOC since 1999 till today.
  • President of the Preparation Commissions for the sports seasons during the period 1983 – 2007.
  • Member of the Election Committee for the Sports Federations during the period 1984 – 2009.
  • Member of the Supreme Council of Sport & Physical Education during the period 1995 – 2006.
  • Member of the Sports Medicine’s Board of Directors during the period 1998 – 2016.
  • Member of the Junior & Youth Care Fund’s Board of Directors during the period 1996 – 2016.
  • Member of the Board of Directors of West Asia Federation and the President of Financial Committee during the period 1999 – 2016.
  • Member of the OCA’s Financial Committee during the period 2003 – 2016.
  • 4th Vice-President of ISSF since 2010 till today .
  • Member of the Supervision & Coordination for Courses Committee during the period 2005 – 2013.
  • He was granted the membership in many Arab & Continental Sports Federations.
  • He was honored in many occasions as an appreciation for his roles.
  • He headed many participating delegations in several Arab, Continental & International Games, Championships & sports events.

 

IOC Trophy 2012 –  Sport & Sustainable Development :

The winner was Mr. Khaled Saleh Hussein

Resume:

  • He has a Diploma in Mathematics .
  • He was elected in the sports conference as a member of the Executive Committee in the Supreme Sport Council in 1978.
  • He was educationist in 1973.
  • Educationist in Mathematics and the Vice-Manager in the Ministry of Education during the period 1980 – 1987.
  • Member of Yemen NOC’s Board of Directors of the Southern Yemen, during the period 1988 – 1990.
  • General Manager of the Sports Activities during the period 1990 – 2011.
  • Member of Yemen NOC’s Board of Directors during the period 2006 – 2015.
  • Assistant Under Secretary of the Sport Sector in 2012.
  • Participated in External & local sports seminars & courses.
  • Participated within sports delegations in many International, Continental & Arab Games as well as Olympic & Asian Games.

 

 

IOC Trophy 2013 –  Sport is a Life School :

The winner was Mr. Mohammed Ahmed AL-KABAB

  • He is a member of Yemen Consultative Council and President of International Relations Committee.
  • Minister of Health, during the period 1979 – 1988.
  • Minister of Youth & Sports, during the period 1988 – 1994.
  • Yemen Ambassador in KSA, during the period 1995 – 2002.
  • President of Yemen NOC, during the period 1990 – 1993.
  • Member of the Executive Office of Arab Sports Union, during the period 1991 – 1994.
  • Member of Yemen Tennis Federation, during the period 1998 – 1998.
  • Participated in establishing Yemen Equestrian Federation.
